How to Protect Your Skin Against the Sun’s Harmful Rays
Protect your skin against the sun’s harmful UVA (ultra violet aging) and UVB (ultra violet burning) rays.
Research shows 90 percent of wrinkles are caused by the sun’s UVA light and sun damage is the #1 cause of premature aging in women and men. The best sunscreens provide broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB-sunburn) protection. Look for either zinc or titanium minerals in your sunscreen.
Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply after 40 minutes of swimming or sweating, immediately after towel drying and at least every 2 hours.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends dressing babies in light weight clothing and brimmed hats, keeping babies under 6 months of age out of direct sunlight and when not able to avoid the sun, then apply sunscreen.
If unsure whether to use sunscreen on your baby, check with your doctor first. You may also want to test the sunscreen on a small patch of your babies skin and then wait to see if there is any reaction before applying to larger areas.
Through conventional make up, lotions, creams, and cleansers we inadvertently use hundreds of different ingredients; many of them toxic, on a daily basis 85% of which are absorbed through our skin into the bloodstream. This gives us many reasons to choose natural products with organic ingredients. Using a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 daily protects your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, while using antioxidants will help prevent the damage caused by free radicals, as well as protect and nourish your skin by repairing cells, reducing pigment, and preventing the breakdown of collagen and elastin which produce fine lines and wrinkles and accelerate visible signs of aging.
